Eat your heart out: Oluf’s Is on Østerbro

July 23, 2013

It’s been a little quiet around here lately. If you follow me on Instagram you know, that I am moving next week. So I’m pretty busy with packing these days.. More on that later!

*edit: Hviid’s Is changed their name to Oluf’s Is – still the same good quality of ice cream.

I often get asked for tips by instagrammers and bloggers who are visiting Copenhagen. So I've decided to make a series here on the blog and share some of my Copenhagen favourites with you.

There is a heat wave going on in Denmark at the moment with temperatures from 26-30 degrees C - now that doesn't happen very often, and I'm loooving it! Except from being stuck at work. So what better choice to kick off this new series than ice cream?!

Hviid's Is has been the talk of the town lately - so of course I had to go and check it out for myself. And I'm telling you, it won't be the last time! Hviid's Is opened their charming little shop in Østerbro close to Trianglen a few months ago. They make the popsicles fresh every day with different flavours and toppings.

The popsicles are made from Italian gelato - that means less fat and air than in mass-produced ice cream. The main ingredient is milk - not cream, except for the sorbet ones made from fruit.

We had a hard time choosing which ones to get, so we ended up having four (yes, 4!!) each. They come in different sizes from xtra-small to large. So if you - like me obviously! - love ice cream, go for the small or extra-small ones and try a few different flavours.

My absolute favourite was the caramel one topped with milk chocolate. But the strawberry one covered in white chocolate was a close runner-up. My friend says his was the liquorice one covered in dark chocolate. Or the caramel one.. Well, I think we will just have to go back soon and try a few more!

If you live in or are visiting Copenhagen, you must go and visit this cute little ice cream shop for yourself. And then come back here and tell me, which one was your favourite, so I'll know which one to try next time.
