My favourite corner #3

September 13, 2013

Before I present today’s addition to the series “My favourite corner”, I just want to say thank you to the lovely people, who have opened up their homes and given us a tour. I am humbled and grateful that inspiring people from all over the world have agreed to show us a personal part of their home. I hope you are enjoying this series as much as I am! Missed part #1 and #2? Dont cry – go catch up in stead.

Today the lovely Line from Norway, whom I have gotten to know via Instagram, is giving us a tour of her favourite corner. Line lives right outside of Oslo in a big three-story house with her husband and two kids – a 14-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. The house was built in 2004 by the pervious owner. Line and her family moved in a year ago and have been busy with changing the house to suit their needs. I know that Line will agree with me, that moving is hard work! Line and I share a common interest and love of Nordic and Danish design.

Here is Line:

My favourite corner is in the main living room on the first floor. We have a living room on all three floors. It took me a while to get this room to work. I started out by decorating according to the latest trends, but it didn’t feel right. So I gave in and decorated according to my heart instead. I chose materials and colours that make me feel good.

The result is a room kept in very delicate and light colours like white, beige and wood. The combination gives me a sense of calm – and since I have three living rooms, I can play with the latest trends in the other two rooms.
I love Scandinavian design and especially Danish design. My mum is Danish, so this is perhaps why Danish design means so much to me. White oiled wood is one of my absolute favourite materials – it reminds me of the many wonderful summer holidays I have spent in summer houses around Denmark with my Danish grandparents. White oiled wood and the colour white are the red thread throughout my house. And in a few years, when the living room floor is to be changed, it will be replaced with white oiled wood floors.

My all time favourite lamp Bestlite from Gubi is also in my favourite corner – two in fact. Both the wall and the floor model in white.
I don’t like too much on my walls. It was love at first sight when I first saw the Corniche shelves from Vitra. I love the minimalistic expression. And it is the perfect place for my wooden Danish design friends.
This is also the corner, where the very first piece of design furniture I ever bought, lives – the Eames rocking chair. I have my eye on a few classic design chairs for this corner, but if I buy one, this chair will have to go. I don’t want to say goodbye to it just yet, so for now this works.

Thank you so much Line for showing us your favourite corner. I love the Bestlite lamps! And if that Eames rocking chair ever needs a new home, feel free to send it to me. I promise to love it and take good care of it! ;)

Take a tour of Nadia Lassen of by Lassen and Rachelle of La Petite magazine‘s favourite corner.
