If there is one thing I truly love, it is well made design. My heart beats especially for beautiful Danish design, made in Denmark. So I was thrilled, when I found the fab new web shop
byDK.nu dedicated to upcoming Danish design. They even carry a few designers like Lomonto and Gejst, that I’ve previously blogged about.
Lise Lystlund is the woman behind the shop. She is dedicated to finding beautiful, sustainable and organic – when possible – Danish design and specialities made by passionate people in Denmark. Every item in the shop was carefully chosen by Lise herself. Her philosophy is to buy local and to cut down transportation to a minimum to reduce CO2 emission and put as little strain on our earth as possible.
I couldn’t agree more! Reduce, reuse & recycle has been part of my philosophy for years, so I was especially thrilled to learn, that Lise has figured out a clever was of reducing the transportation of goods. In stead of having a physical storage for the products byDK sells, which is pretty common for a web shop – all items bought on byDK.nu are sent directly from the designers themselves. Cleaver, right!
It sounds really good. But how does it work in reality? I set out to test the concept. After browsing the webshop I selected a few of my favourites (which was not easy!). I have been looking for a tea cosy for quite some time but I hadn’t found one that I really liked. And there it was – the perfect one! It is from Place de Bleu, a brand that I love the story behind.
I also wanted to add some summer colours to the living room and I found just the perfect pillow to do that – also by Place de Bleu.
For the kitchen I ordered this beautiful wooden cutting board by Lomonto and I ended up throwing in a glass of strawberry/elderflower marmalade from Nordisk. I mean how could I not? It is two of my favourite tastes all mixed up in to one.
The marmalade did not disappoint – it is so good! I love a bit of marmalade on top of a good cheese – it is the perfect combination of flavours, if you ask me. Especially on freshly baked paleo bread, like I made this weekend.
All items arrived on time – and the good part about it coming from each designer, is that I got to open three packages. It felt a little like my birthday or Christmas. New products are introduced in the shop all the time. Since I ordered, these beautiful, handmade porcelain bowls have arrived. This might very well be the next thing I order – look at the details, isn’t it beautiful?
