I’ve asked a hand full of inspiring and talented people to each write a guest post for the blog to keep you entertained while I’m off on holiday in Southeast Asia. Sixth up is designer Silke Bonde.
Before I ever met Silke I bought a few of her prints years ago. Because of Instagram, Silke knew that. So the first time we met she said to me “I think my Fox is hanging on your wall”. We had a laugh and we’ve had many great talks since. I’ve actually just framed a print from Silke’s new collection – I’ll show you once I’m back. I asked Silke to share her inspiration and approach to design with us.
I find inspiration in the nature that surrounds us
It’s a pleasure to be here. My name is Silke Bonde. I am 24 and I have just finished my final thesis in Brand Design. So now I guess I am a grown up. For two years I have been working with graphic design and sold my graphics all over the world. It has been a great journey so far and I can’t wait to welcome new exiting projects in the future.
I love how we are able to communicate and share through photos worldwide. Scrolling down Pinterest and Instagram I dream of all the beautiful places in the world. Every day I see beautiful places that I would love to explore and I am adding them to my “where to go when Copenhagen is too rainy” list. Hopefully I will be sitting on a plane this fall with my backpack heading some place far away.
Even though it often rains I actually love Copenhagen a lot. I lived in Nørrebro with my boyfriend and Balder (my dog) for some years and it was great. But suddenly it all felt so crowded and we were longing for fresh air, a walk in the woods and silence. So we moved to a place a little north of Copenhagen. Now we live close to the sea as well as the woods and I can ride my bike to the centre of Copenhagen in 25 minutes. The perfect combination!
While being in my “nature mood” I created my new limited “Blue Water” collection. The water that surrounds our little country and the water that rains on us 121 days a year inspired me. The “Blue Water” collection is a tribute to the water that we can’t live without. So of course it’s made with watercolour.
The aesthetic clean lines from the world of geometry combined with the Scandinavian design history are the key building blocks in my work. I like to act in a humorous and informal universe, which often includes animals and the nature in general.
I hope you enjoyed reading a little about me. Let’s meet in the digital world.
