Vee Speers – photos from the edge of reality

Vee Speers magical universe via that nordic feeling

I have had a thing for Vee Speers’ fascinating art photos for years. I love the way they tricker a reaction in the viewer no matter if you’re fascinated or puzzled. And I have good new for you, if you are a Vee Speers fan too. My good friends over at VISSEVASSE have become the exclusive distributor for Denmark. Don’t be sad, if you’re not Danish – VISSEVASSE ship world-wide.

You probably already know VISSEVASSE (maybe from this post if you are a regular reader). If you don’t, VISSEVASSE has a gorgeous candy-coloured universe full of posters designed in Denmark. And now they also sell posters from two of Vee Speer’s collections called THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and THIRTEEN. There’s a total of 18 motives. I’ve chosen a few favourites to style.

I bought my first Vee Speers poster a few years ago and my collection has since grown. I should mention, that the quality of paper, that VISSEVASSE prints on are much better than any Vee Speers posters I have from other suppliers – plus it is environmentally friendly, which is always a big plus in my book.

Vee herself describes her universe like this:

“I like to seduce, with images that are at once disturbing and beautiful, but leaving a space for the viewer to enter my world. My portraits combine elements which evoke conflicting emotions that can surprise the viewer, telling a story that is somewhere between fantasy and reality, the obvious and the unexpected”.

TIP: How to style a picture wall + where to find the prints and posters

I am especially drawn to the THIRTEEN series. It’s portraits of her own daughter from the year, she turned 13. We’ve all been there and know how agonising the shift from child to woman can be. I love the way Vee has captured all these little changes that happens so fast but are so significant.

Make sure to check out the series THE BIRTHDAY PARTY too. Imagine having Cleopatra, the duchess of Devonshire, Queen Victoria, an empire and a snake charmer over for a party. Add a few odd objects and Vee Speers with a camera. Then you’ll get theatrical portraits of costumed children on their way to an imaginary celebration. Speers came up with the idea for the project during her daughter’s birthday party.

Find both the THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and THIRTEEN series here.

If you love, what you see, make sure to stop by the blog again on Wednesday, because I’ve teamed up with VISSEVASSE for a fab give away. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this.

Until then, have a fab Sunday and a lovely new week. By the way – remember the beautiful kitchen I styled earlier this summer? Tomorrow I will share the photos with you, so check back if you’re looking for inspiration to add personality to your (white) kitchen.

I love Vee Speers work too. Treated myself to one of the posters from the birthday party series when we went to Stockholm. Great to know there is now a Danish supplier who ships outside Denmark, that’s a plus. Will also look out for the giveaway x
