For the 52nd year in a row, Royal Copenhagen has asked 6 celebrities to set a Christmas table in the big flagship store in the heart of Copenhagen. I’ve always loved stopping by the shop, walking through the different backdrops and soaking up the holiday spirit. As sure as the cool and crisp December air is part of the Christmas month, the same goes for Royal Copenhagen’s Christmas tables.
This year 6 actors was asked to set the scene for Christmas, and they did so with heart, humour, wit and charity. The references are very Danish and the humour as sarcastic as it gets in Denmark, so you probably have to be Danish to really appreciate it.
Last Friday I spent my afternoon at the press event where I enjoyed the revealing of this years tables. I even had a brief talk with a few of the actors behind this year’s tables. It’s now open for the public, so if you are in Copenhagen before Christmas you should stop by and soak up the holiday vibes. Free of charge of course.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the tables.
Royal Copenhagen’s Christmas tables 2015
My favourite was the table set by ‘Rytteriet’ – a Danish pair of comedians (Martin Buch and Rasmus Botoft). They always crack me up and I love the over the top luxurious table all in all shades of candy-colours.
Mia Lyhne has set a breakfast table for Christmas morning. The bed looks so inviting and I would definitely love to wake up to this breakfast.
Bodil Jørgensen has set a traditional cake table from Southern Jutland. Lots of plates are ready to greet all the refuges just crossing the border.
Peter Frödin has created a traditional Danish Christmas lunch set in a smoke-filled, old school pub complete with smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) and lots of bear fresh from the tab.
Kirsten Lehfeldt is dreaming about an African escape far out into the African savannah.
Last but not least; Jarl Friis Mikkelsen wants to remind us, that Christmas is all about heart. The Christmas spirit is all about love and giving and as much as a lot of us love this time of year, some people have a hard time getting through it.
That’s it. Stop by the flagship store on Amagertorv to check out the tables for yourself.
