Tomorrow is December 1st – one of my favourite days of the year. I always wake up in a ridiculous good mood. The twinkle lights are twinkling all over the city, Christmas trees are sold on every street corner and it’s finally ok to listen to Christmas music (although I’ve been doing so for a couple of weeks now). December is such a magic month to me. I know not everyone feels like I do. Some people don’t have family to spend the holidays with, and to some all the cheer and twinkle makes them even more sad and annoyed – I am sorry, if that’s you. I am the exact opposite.
December is mulled wine, hanging out with friends and family, eating lots and lots of good food and cakes, decorations, gift shopping, Christmas cards from near and far plus Christmas Eve and my birthday – in short; one of the best months of the year. And I cannot wait to get started!
I had friends over for brunch yesterday and when they left I got all the decorations out of storage. In one of the boxes I found old Christmas cards and birthday cards (yes I am the sentimental type, who keep cards). I started re-reading them and was reminded of things that happened throughout the years and all the warm and heartfelt greeting really moved me. I cried a little, I smiled a lot and I was reminded of the power of words and the mark they leave even after we are gone. In the pile was old cards from my grand parent who are no longer with us, but who I still miss very much.
Last year I didn’t get around to sending any Christmas cards because I was too busy. But sitting on the floor yesterday reading old cards I swore that I will do it this year. Because it is important that one time a year to take the time to sit down and write the friends and family we love a handwritten card thanking them for the year that is about to run out. So this year I will. And since I’ve just written it here, I will have to do it, ha! Are you with me?
I didn’t get much decorating done yesterday, but I did go through my boxes of Christmas crimbo. And oh dear! I’ve been collecting since I was a child and half of it is so ugly that I will never ever use it again. So I sorted it and threw out a big pile. Feels good! Now I am ready to decorate the house in the coming days – yay!
Btw did you get any Christmas shopping done on Black Friday? If not, there are still a few good offers today. Apparently it’s Cyber Monday. A day I’ve never heard of, but as long as it means good discounts, I’m onboard!

Also Modern Mood‘s sale is still on and includes new products from Menu, Kähler, Normann Copenhagen, Muuto and By Nord.
