The Danish design firm Kähler is launching a new collaboration with the Danish designer Stine Goya. Now that is good news if you ask me! I got to see the designs for myself at a press conference earlier this week and they were lovely.
Unique patterns and bold colours
Stine Goya is an internationally recognised designer mostly known for her beautiful clothes in bold fabrics and colour choices. This is her first range of ceramics. The name of the range is Fiora and it carries her trade marks; rich in unique patterns, characterful silhouettes and bold choices of colour. It is available in shops from October 2016.
“I have always had a great desire to make pottery, which is a completely different material from what I usually work in. There is something lovely about pottery. It starts as a soft substance, but ends up becoming a hard material, which is permanent and lasting,” says Stine Goya.
Tradition meets avantgarde
“Kähler is an exciting brand with a huge tradition of craftsmanship. For me, it is the company’s long history of working with craftspersons and their respect for age-old techniques, which have been so wonderful to be a part of. It has been fun to make something different from what Kähler usually makes, but which still has a strong link to the brand’s history,” says Stine Goya.
The idiom of Fiora is strong and prominent. The powerful silhouettes and large volume of the range were inspired by Kähler’s history from the 1950’s-1960’s. Here they experimented with the size of vases, bowls and candle holders.
The Fiora series
Fiora includes a classic stand, two pots (a big and a small) and a wall vase. All designs are available in two different colour stories. One is characterised by a light pink shade with dove blue and golden, burnt shades. The other interprets a darker colour universe, in which creamy white and a hint of gold form a contrast to the midnight blue.
The two colour stories are elegantly united by the golden glaze, which is also visible on a small, self-coloured vase. The small pot is also available in the self-coloured pink shade with a gold interior. The large pot and the stand come in a warm bordeaux.
